About seven years ago, I sat in an auditorium packed with eager eared local champions. I did not know at the time what was before me. All I knew was that I had been studying at the University of Namibia and that was a big thing for a girl from Katutura. My professor was a well read gentleman who had taught in the UK at some point. Of all the books we studied in that class, the one I remember most is Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. Tess is, according to the description on the cover, a ‘pure woman faithfully presented’. Now, I am not going to go through the whole story with you, I would suggest you just read this beautiful book. Anyways, I mentioned this book because it was the inspiration behind the name of this blog. Somewhere in those scripted pages stands “…a blighted star…”. That is to describe Tess’ world. I instantly became attached to Tess. My reasons will be obvious once you have read the book. I recommend you do it.
This blog is directed to all women or girls like Tess and I who have had difficult lives and are still thriving despite everything. It is for girls who are going through some things that are difficult to talk about. I mean things like, abandonment, neglect, self love issues, abuse and violation. You can think of anything a girl can go through in this world. I believe by sharing life’s experiences we can make this world more bearable for ourselves. This blog is also for men and boys. It is to educate them and give them a glimpse of our world. I believe that if men understood the consequences of their actions, they would teach their boys better. I believe too if Women undersood the consequences of their actions, they´d teach their girls better.
You can expect anything from poems to short stories all based on my observations of life, written by me. There will be book reviews, as well as general discussions. So, go right ahead. Read and comment. I am eager to hear from you.
